OHIO has allowed KIDTEST.COM SM to
put online, practice tests questions for the benefit
of OHIO's students. These tests from OHIO's Proficiency Test Program, can
be accessed from the KIDTEST.COM SM test inventory and then taken online by using the latest
in Internet testing technology.
These OHIO tests have been created in accordance with testing standards approved by the OHIO Department of Education.
The sixth grade test in Reading has 30 questions. This test is appropriate for those in the final
months of sixth grade and in seventh and eighth grade.
READING
Fiction or Poetry Selections:
Given a fiction or poetry text to read silently, learners will demonstrate an understanding of text and elements of fiction or poetry by responding to items in which they:
- analyze aspects of the text, examining, for example, characters, setting, plot, problem/solution, point of view, or theme;
- summarize the text;
- infer from the text; and/or
- respond to the text.
Given a fiction or poetry text to read silently, learners will demonstrate an understanding of text
and elements of fiction or poetry by responding to items in which they:
- compare and contrast aspects of the text, for example, characters or settings;
- critique and evaluate the text;
- select information for a variety of purposes, including enjoyment;
- express reasons for recommending or not recommending the text for a particular audience or purpose; and/or
- explain how an author uses contents of a text to support his/her purpose for writing.
Nonfiction Selections:
Given a nonfiction text to read silently, learners will demonstrate an understanding of text and elements of nonfiction by
responding to items in which they:
- analyze the text, examining, for example, author's use of comparison
and contrast, cause and effect, or fact and opinion;
- summarize the text;
- infer from the text; and/or
- respond to the text.
Given a nonfiction text to read silently, learners will demonstrate an understanding of text and elements of
nonfiction by responding to items in which they:
- compare and/or contrast aspects of the text;
- critique and evaluate the text for such elements as organizational
structure and logical reasoning;
- select information from a variety of resources to support ideas, concepts, and interpretations;
- express reasons for recommending or not recommending the text for a particular
audience or purpose; and/or
- explain how an author uses contents of a text to support his/her purpose for writing.
